City to the Sea

October 8, 2017
Since 1995, City to the Sea has been the premier fundraiser for the Cuesta College track and field and cross-country teams. Your race registration helps ensure that the athletes can continue training and racing in one of the California Community College’s preeminent track and cross-country programs. Thank you for your support!

The City to the Sea half marathon course is a point-to-point race that starts in downtown San Luis Obispo. The course winds through the city, takes runners along scenic backroads, including the Bob Jones Trail, and ends alongside the Pacific Ocean, with incredible view of the Pacific Ocean, in the coastal community of Pismo Beach.

Our Seaside 5k course (3.1 miles) is out-and-back and begins and ends in Pismo Beach at Dinosaur Caves Park, near the finish expo for the half marathon. The scenic course winds through the beautiful neighborhoods of Shell Beach with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. There is one challenging climb on this otherwise gentle course.

Surfing for Hope Annual Longboard Contest

Surfing for Hope was created to help inspire people challenged by cancer through the positive energy of surfing. The success of our Surfing for Hope Annual Longboard Surf Contest, combined with great community support, encourages us to grow to help even more in the fight against cancer by taking to the water.

The Surfing for Hope Annual Longboard Contest Weekend will take place on October 6 & 7, 2017, in Pismo Beach, California. This event is designed to help inspire people challenged by cancer through the positive energy of surfing. Surfing is the ideal format to help people in this situation by showing how positive and healthful our sport is and it gives the surfing community the opportunity to give back to people in need by sharing what we love.

All proceeds from Surfing for Hope will benefit the Surfing for Hope Foundation. in San Luis Obispo, California. Since 2012, Surfing for Hope has raised more than $200,000 to support and assist cancer patients and their families. Our beneficiaries last year included the Pure Stoke Youth Program and local cancer resources for current families battling cancer.

The event begins on Friday afternoon with Opening Ceremonies. The Ceremonies include a Memorial Paddle Out to honor friends and loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer. Following in the paddle out, a Benefit Reception featuring foods and wines of the Central Coast, silent auction, and will take place at Avila Beach Lighthouse Suites.

On Saturday the Annual Longboard Surf Contest and Cancer Resource Health Fair will be held at the Pismo Beach pier. The contest is open to ages 10 and up with a variety of divisions. The Health Fair focuses on business and local groups which support, educate and help people who are going through the cancer experience.

This is a great opportunity for both the surfing world and the medical world to join up to support people who are challenged with this disease. We are so stoked about our sixth consecutive year and with your support we know it will be our best ever!
