2008 Calendar of Events

The Pismo Beach Recreation Division and the Business Improvement Group (BIG) will be sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Dinosaur Caves Park . The event starts at 10 a.m. It is free to the public and will occur rain or shine.

The event, designed for children 12 and under, will offer egg hunts in five age divisions: 2 and under, 3-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years, and 10-12 years. There will be special prizes in each age category. Kids can participate in crafts, egg tossing game, balancing and finding eggs. There will be a petting zoo with a mini pony, chickens, goat, and bunnies. There will have 4 face painters, balloon caricature artist, kids music, and much more. The Easter Bunny will be visiting so parents are encouraged to bring a camera. Children should bring their own Easter basket.

April 27: Taste of Pismo
Restaurants of Pismo Beach and local wineries will be showcasing their offerings at this annual event. The Taste of Pismo will be held from 1pm to 5 pm. A total of 500 tickets will be sold for the event this year. The event will be held under a large tent in Dinosaur Caves Park. Tickets for this event are $50.00 each and include a commemorative wine glass.

August 9: Stride with the Tide 5K Fun Run
Race: starts at 9:00am Rain or Shine. The course is out and back on the sand starting at the Pismo Beach Pier. Walkers are welcome.
Registration: 7:30 am - 8:45 am at the pier on race day. No pre-registration.
Checks: payable to the City of Pismo Beach.
Entry Fee: $15 with shirt, $12 without shirt. T-shirts will be available to the first 100 entrants who request them. Shirt size will be accommodated in order of entry.
Awards: medals for the top three places in 10 age divisions.

October 12: City To The Sea Half-Marathon & 5K Course/WeatherCourse:
P-T-P (point to point) starts in quaint downtown San Luis Obispo and heads south, continuing on beautiful country roads to picturesque Shell Beach Road. The last two miles are slightly downhill with a stunning ocean view. The race finishes in Pismo Beach at Dinosaur Caves Park. The course has very slight inclines and runs only a few feet downhill to sea level. Average high temperature in San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach during late October is 75 degrees. Average rainfall is .05 inches. No pets or stroller/joggers allowed on the 1/2 marathon course.

5K Health Walk:
The 5k health walk course is an out and back paved course starting at Dinosaur Caves and following the 1/2 marathon course out and back from the finish. No pets allowed on the course, however, baby stroller/joggers are permitted (5k only).

Safety:
The course will only be open for three hours. Walkers must finish within that time period to participate in the half-marathon. Walkers that start before the race starting time will NOT be allowed through the finish chute. Sorry, no baby strollers, baby joggers, pets, or skates allowed on the course 1/2 marathon course, however strollers and baby joggers are allowed on the 5k course. Considerations made for runners with special needs. The course is suitable for wheelchair athletes.

Half marathon starts from Higuera and Osos St.
5K walk starts from Dinosaur Cave Park
9:30am – Post Race Breakfast at Dinosaur Cave Park.

November 9: Veteran's Day Celebration
Celebrate and remember our nation's heroes on Sunday for a Memorial Service on the pier.

"Holiday Harmony", will take place Friday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dolliver / Main Street parking lot. Kids will have fun with fresh snow, Santa's Village, a bounce house, cookie decorating and more. Adults will enjoy live music and holiday shopping in local downtown businesses.

The holiday tree lighting will also be held on Friday with the actual lighting of the tree to occur at 6 p.m. in front of the Pismo Beach Pier. Caroling, hot apple cider will be served and Santa will hand out candy canes to the children starting at 5:30 p.m.

Both activities are offered free to the public.
